Good News in Williamson County: Local Blood Donors Are Coming Together to Help Save Lives

Sometimes community generosity is as simple—and as meaningful—as giving an hour of your day to help someone you've never met.

That's exactly the idea behind Wilco Saves 2026, a Williamson County community blood-donation campaign taking place August 27 through September 8.

We Are Blood is partnering with Williamson County EMS and other community leaders to encourage residents to donate blood around Labor Day, a period when blood donations typically decline. The blood collected through the campaign supports hospitals and patients throughout Central Texas, including medical centers serving communities such as Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, and North Austin.

And this isn't just a single donation location.

Several local organizations are participating in blood drives, including the Liberty Hill Chamber of Commerce on August 27, the Hutto Area Chamber of Commerce and Georgetown Chamber of Commerce on August 28, and the City of Hutto on August 31.

Why This Is the Kind of Good News Worth Sharing

There isn't always a dramatic headline attached to generosity.

Sometimes it's a person taking time out of their day to donate.

Sometimes it's a business opening its doors for a blood drive.

Sometimes it's a community organization encouraging its members to participate.

And collectively, those small actions can help provide lifesaving blood products to patients when they're needed.

Williamson County is one of the Central Texas counties supported by We Are Blood donations, and those donations can help patients in area hospitals and in the field.

What I love about this story is that it isn't about one person doing something extraordinary.

It's about ordinary people choosing to help.

Neighbors. Business owners. First responders. Community organizations. Families.

Everyone has an opportunity to contribute in a very tangible way.

And that is something worth celebrating about the communities around North Austin.
