Good News in Georgetown: Community Rallies to Save Local Bookstore

In Georgetown, a powerful example of community support recently unfolded — and it’s the kind of story that reminds you what “local” really means.

Independent bookstore Lark & Owl Booksellers faced serious financial challenges earlier this year due to reduced foot traffic, ongoing construction, and weather-related disruptions. The situation put the business at risk of closing its doors.

But the community didn’t let that happen.

Within days, residents stepped in and rallied together — raising over $46,000 from more than 500 donors to help keep the bookstore open.

People didn’t just donate — they showed up, shared the story, and made a conscious effort to support the business in person.

This wasn’t just about saving a bookstore.

It was about protecting a space where people gather, connect, and feel part of something local. Places like this often become part of daily life — a quiet meeting spot, a place to unwind, or somewhere that simply feels familiar.

What stood out most wasn’t the amount raised — it was how quickly people responded.
